A long-standing debate rages: should you leave the toilet seat up or down? While it's not the most pressing conundrum of our time, it's a question that has certainly caught the attention of engineering students at Boston University and MIT. They've now developed a pair of toilet seats that can be raised and lowered automatically by mechanical pressure.

Andy Chang, Cleana’s co-founder and CFO, said: “When someone sits on the seat, they apply pressure, and our mechanism can automatically detect when the user is done. After a set time, the seat will automatically Raised (in a commercial setting) or lowered (in a residential setting)."
